9 patients made nearly 2,700 ER visits in Texas

"AUSTIN, Texas – Just nine people accounted for nearly 2,700 of the emergency room visits in the Austin area during the past six years at a cost of $3 million to taxpayers and others, according to a report. The patients went to hospital emergency rooms 2,678 times from 2003 through 2008, said the report from the nonprofit Integrated Care Collaboration, a group of health care providers who care for low-income and uninsured patients."

Wow, i guess they were broken?
Wait, maybe the system is broken?

Bears vs Bears = Who wins?

So the end of the year post generally has one speaking of peace and encouragement for the year to come. I say scratch that.

I saw this post about Trolli Gummi Bears vs Haribo Gummi Bears.

What I like most about this reviewer's take is that he actually puts the Haribo Gummies in his jacket pocket for snacking. Sort of in line with how Napoleon Dynamite would put hash brown pieces in his pant leg pocket.

"They’re far firmer than the Trolli Bears. What’s cool about them is that you can have them in your hand or pocket (yes, I sometimes stick candy in my jacket pockets not in any sort of wrapper so I can snack discretely when walking or in a meeting) without them sticking to anything. The Trolli bears have that oily coating that just makes lint stick to them."

"(The funnest part of the clear ones is that they remind me of invisibility. You know, like Wonder Woman’s invisible plane on the Superfriends. See, you can cast the whole cartoon with gummi bears! The Red Bear is Superman, the Orange Bear is Aquaman, Yellow is Batman and Green is Robin. It’s a perfect match!) "

Hurrican Ike, thanks for visiting

We came away very lucky. Houston got jacked up.

We lost power for about 12 hours. Kids didn't sleep well and Jess did a bang up job taking care of them at 3am. She took that shift while I took the next shift so she could sleep.

The power went out for about 12 hours and that's about the best I've heard. I think it had something to do with our power lines being underground and our newer neighborhood doesn't have many large overgrown trees. I think I saw 1 shingle in our backyard but i'm not sure if it is mine. One of the tall exhausts poles on our roof is bent really bad but not sure what it's for.

The wind did blow off one of my hubcaps on my car. Which is pretty funny.

I just hope everyone came out okay.

Think about this. Many people who stayed to weather the storm in an evacuated area was because they valued their property more than their life. I find that very weird. They would give their life for short term possession. Seriously? When you die you can't take it with you. Your kids would rather have you around than say a boat or some electronics.

People have a weird sense of value.

90% left the island of Galveston for Rita. Only 60% left for Ike. Say what?

I'm fat, sure, obese, sucka please

so our workplace pays for these health screenings and sure, i'm carrying some baby sympathy weight. but come on!

the bmi on there says i'm obese. please! I haven't been that weight since 7th grade. If I ran every day and hit the weights and cut back on food I'd be that weight and be freaking ripped. being ripped isn't a person's normal "body" makeup. I'm okay with a gut. shoot. it's a part of me. hahah

My goal for myself it to be about 15 lbs lighter. not 30-40lbs. that's nuts. They also checked out one of our scientists who runs marathons and called him overweight. nuts I say!

oh, sad part is, I think I'm shrinking. They measured me at 5'7"3/4. what!!!! If i'm 5'7 then Jess is 5'1

i love my wife, but sometimes....

so johnny and peggy came over to chit chat and i had just finished feeding nate some solids. so nate is sitting on his bumbo chilling and staring at johnny. jess cut up some pineapples for ally and was feeding her from a small bowl and fork. I was feeding nate some of the small baby foods that melt in their mouth. he loves them.

so while we were talking, jess freaks out and yells, "what! why does nate have a pineapple chunk in his mouth". it seemed as if nate stole a pineapple from jess's bowl! ally did knock it over and some fell out but i thought we picked it all up.

5min go by and I catch jess feeding nate pineapples!!!!!!! JESSSSSSSSSS. the look in her eye was like deer in headlights. my parenting skills kicked in and I swooped in to get nate away from danger. In this case, it was jess trying to feed adult fruit to a 7month old. she actually was going to put another piece in his mouth and nate was like jaws trying to eat it.

she complains about me multi-tasking cause i tend to zone her out when i'm driving or playing games, but when she's talking to guests she goes and feeds ally's food to nate. doooooh. if jess wasn't so cute i would have to yell at her.

Hint of the day -- If you really make jess laugh or catch her off guard with a good joke she will tinkle just a bit. something to do with her bladder, it's hilarious. she'll be reading my blog and she'll say "man, i almost pissed myself. for real."

Boycotting MSN, Yahoo chat, and google talk

If you haven’t noticed yet, I have been boycotting all chat software for the past 3 weeks. I have banned my Yahoo, MSN, and Google Talk during working hours. I have gotten on at night to chat with some people but generally I have not used messenger much.

Purpose of Boycott:

It has come to my attention that I haven’t been working enough at work and I have been complaining to jess that I feel unproductive. It’s not so much the people chatting with me but that I feel the need to initiate chats with people.

After 3 week:

I can with high confidence say that week 1 I was at least 50% more productive. If I worked ~4 hours a day, I was easily doing 6 hours a day. Week 2 had a slight decrease but still very productive. Week 3 came with some drawbacks as now I’m surfing more. Week 4 this week I’ve been writing reviews for epinions more but the reason behind that is another story I will tell another time.

To summarize: I feel more productive and instead of going to the extreme of totally cutting off the chat software I’ll keep my status as busy. I’ve noticed multiple people boycotting my boycott of msn. Some people don’t like that fact that they have to e-mail me for questions vs just chatting with me. Overall this was a test of will as I wanted to see if I can cut something off I’ve been using for so long.

June 11 marks my return to chatting during work. yipee

***UPDATE***

Also I've put myself on a $50/month allowance. After completion of this boycott I will be awarding myself $10. My allowance doesn't account for food, just toys. Some of you may laugh but I run a tight ship on my end so jess and the kids can have more to spend for themselves. When your a 1 income household you gotta make sacrifices and I know I can stay in budget easier then jess because I'm so much stronger mentally then jess.

I would compare my mind as a Jedi master and Jess's to the sand people of Mos Eisley. muhahha

Vegan Parents Starve Baby to Death on Soy Milk/Apple Juice Diet

Stupidity to a whole new level

1) whatttttt, are you that dumb?

2) life sentence? are you kidding? If your that dumb you get life sentence when we have repeat drunk drivers with 3 strikes who don't get life sentence. Was there intent to kill or harm? they were just stupid parents. Now aggravated assault to kill if needed is way worse. oh well, messed up court system.

Amazing. And sad."Vegan parents guilty in infant murder 6-week-old died of starvation after being fed diet of soy milk, apple juice"
