Hurrican Ike, thanks for visiting

We came away very lucky. Houston got jacked up.

We lost power for about 12 hours. Kids didn't sleep well and Jess did a bang up job taking care of them at 3am. She took that shift while I took the next shift so she could sleep.

The power went out for about 12 hours and that's about the best I've heard. I think it had something to do with our power lines being underground and our newer neighborhood doesn't have many large overgrown trees. I think I saw 1 shingle in our backyard but i'm not sure if it is mine. One of the tall exhausts poles on our roof is bent really bad but not sure what it's for.

The wind did blow off one of my hubcaps on my car. Which is pretty funny.

I just hope everyone came out okay.

Think about this. Many people who stayed to weather the storm in an evacuated area was because they valued their property more than their life. I find that very weird. They would give their life for short term possession. Seriously? When you die you can't take it with you. Your kids would rather have you around than say a boat or some electronics.

People have a weird sense of value.

90% left the island of Galveston for Rita. Only 60% left for Ike. Say what?
