so. after using some dell laptops and ibm laptops here is what i think.
a laptop is to be very portable - light, small, long battery, wireless built in, usable screen
desktop replacement laptops are different as they do more stuff but sacrifice portability and battery life.
Pro - Tiger is a fantastic OS. I have been using only jaguar and skipped panther because i had stuff that was jaguar only. I can't say enough about tiger. expose is awsome, fluid interface, very responsive on 512mb. A ton of included software. the battery life is fantasitc, i think it's configured around 6hr on a standard battery. built in wireless, bluetooth, trackpad scrolling. The fit and finish is awsome, very clean exterior. booting up from sleep is freaking fast. i think i did a clean OS install in under 45min. I got some spyware at work that they can't get off, 9 of them. the pain, the pain. $850
other pros you wouldn't know if u don't have 2 macs. i have an imac upstairs hooked to a firewire drive.
-rendezvous, this networking is awsome, quick chats to each machine. itunes and iphoto share stuff with each other extremely fast (networking sharing from pc to mac was 100times slower to sync). in this way i can store almost everything off on the desktop (picture, videos, music, documents). this allows more room on the ibook for video editing and scrapbooking.
cons - resolution could be a little higher 1024x768. 2 button mouse click would be nice. built in card reader for SD is almost standard on most. no dvd burning at this size, but i do all burning and encoding on my desktop anyways. gets a little hot if u use it straight for like 4hrs. no solidworks yet, but they do have edrawings for mac. I haven't installed a pc game since the counterstrike days.
once mac gets solidworks software, that will mark the end of the pc for me in my house. if the intel switch lets me dual boot and i can run solidworks, oooohhh dang. i can work at home then.
Overview :
-Great OS, awsome software bundle (ilife)
-don't have to worry so much about spyware, adware, viruses (so awsome surfing machine)
-Cost at $850 is pretty good, if this baby was hitting $600 it would take out the market.
-digital video editing, picture editing on a small and light notebook.
